Abstract

This study addresses an important social and academic phenomenon—grammatical debate, which has played a significant role in shedding light on various grammatical issues and topics discussed among scholars and grammarians. The study aims to collect and analyze grammatical debates through the lens of dialectical pragmatics theory introduced by Frans van Eemeren and Rob Grootendorst. By applying the reconstruction transformations specified by dialectical pragmatists, specifically the ellipsis transformation, this study seeks to eliminate extraneous annotations and repeated text that lie outside the core resolution of disagreements. The research examines several grammatical debates involving groups of grammarians who strive to reach a mutually agreeable solution—or, at times, an unresolved outcome.
