Alexander the MacedonianAbstract
Undoubtedly, the Hellenistic era represents a distinctive civilizational phenomenon, characterized by the process of blending and interaction between the civilization of Mesopotamia and the Greek civilization. The term "Hellenistic era" is a new and modern designation resulting from the fusion and interaction between the civilization of Mesopotamia and other Eastern civilizations with the Western Greek civilization, forming this hybrid mixed civilization that flourished after the death of Alexander the Great. Consequently, this emerging new era was called the Hellenistic era, in contrast to its predecessor, which was called the Classical Hellenic era and preceded Alexander. The term "Hellenistic" was first used in the early nineteenth century by the German scholar Johann Droysen.
