Keywords:
Population growth, births, deaths, natural increase, migrationAbstract
Population growth rates vary from one stage to another, whether increasing or decreasing throughout their historical cycles, reflecting the economic, political, social, health, and demographic conditions experienced by population societies. Population growth is linked to two main pillars: natural increase, which results from the difference between births and deaths leading to population growth, and the second pillar represented by population migration, which plays an important and effective role in increasing or decreasing population groups. This study addresses the historical development of population growth in Iraq over the official censuses and the extent of its variation at the provincial level. It also examines the components of population growth represented by births, deaths, natural increase, and migration, their spatial variation, and studies the underlying reasons behind this variation.
