British-Ceylonese Relations 1948 – 1952

This research sheds light on British-Ceylonese relations since February 4, 1948, when Ceylon became an independent state within the Commonwealth, and bilateral relations between the two countries evolved in areas such as trade, defense, and international cooperation. After signing a defense agreement between Ceylon and Britain, which obliges Britain to protect the state of Ceylon from any potential aggression, especially from its major neighbor, India, Ceylon also became a member of the Commonwealth to ensure the continuation of friendly relations between the two countries
